Monday, September 28, is the day we will host Welcome Table. The menu is meatloaf, green peas, red potatoes, slaw, bread, beverage, and dessert.

We will need a minimum of twenty-five meatloaves. We ask that the meatloaves be cooked prior to bringing them to the parish hall. If you can donate a meatloaf, please bring it to church by Sunday, September 27, and leave it in the refrigerator in the kitchen at the parish hall.

Identify the meatloaf with the name of the preparer and the date prepared.

Desserts are also needed and should be identified with the name of the giver.

Meatloaf Recipe
2 lbs. ground beef
1 package onion soup mix
2 eggs
½ cup tomato sauce
¾ cup bread crumbs or crushed crackers.

Combine all ingredients. Place meatloaf in loaf pan. Cook at 350 degrees for one hour or until a meatthermometer reads 160 degrees.

Allow meatloaf to cool. Remove from pan and put into a zip lock freezer bag or wrap in tin foil. Freeze (if made ahead of time). Bring to church by Sunday, September 27, and leave it in the refrigerator at the parish hall. Identify the meatloaf with the name of the preparer and the date prepared. If you make a meatloaf before the week for Welcome Table and want to bring it to the parish hall, please put it in the freezer in the kitchen.

It would be helpful to know, prior to September 28, if you will donate items for the meal. Please let Sherry Campbell know you will make these donations.

Help is always needed the day we serve as host at Welcome Table. If you will be able to be there to help that Monday in the preparation of the food, please contact Sherry Campbell (828-288-3801, 828-287-8507, or

Blessing of the Animals

The Blessing of the Animals will be on Saturday, October 3rd at 10:00 am in the Parish House parking lot.

Join the Conversation

The Diocese will be holding several Holy Conversations during August and September. This is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts about the diocese and who our next bishop might be. Your input will be an important part of the profile being developed for those who feel the Holy Spirit calling them to be the next Bishop of Western North Carolina. There will be two meetings in Shelby at Church of the Redeemer on September 1st, at 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm. If you wish to carpool to either event, please meet at the Parish House at 12:00 pm or 5:30 pm.

Please read below letter from The Rev. Dr. Gary Butterworth, Chair of the Bishop Search/Nominating Committee.

Dear Western North Carolina Clergy/Committees/Churches,

Earlier this year our bishop, The Rt. Rev. G. Porter Taylor, announced plans for his retirement and with that the election of a new bishop to be ordained on October 1, 2016. The Standing Committee appointed a Search/Nominating Committee which started its work in May of this year. We have been busy at work forming community, gathering information about our diocese, developing surveys and scheduling Holy Conversations, to name but a few.

One of the top priorities of our committee is to ensure that we get maximum input from our diocese about what we want and need in a new bishop as well as the dreams we have for our diocese. The information gathered will assist us in developing a profile of our diocese which will go out church-wide so interested persons can discern whether Holy Spirit is calling them to be our bishop.

With this said, I want to apprise you of some very important events that will occur during August and September. First is our diocesan survey which will be available online from Aug 19th through September 9th (we are also asking every church to have paper copies available). We ask that everyone take the survey and ask anyone who knows someone who does not have online access to give them the opportunity to take the survey by sitting with them with a computer and helping them take the survey. Second are the Holy Conversations which we will hold throughout the diocese. We have 15 Holy Conversations open to all and three specifically for clergy scheduled where you can sit down with other Western North Carolina Episcopalians to listen and offer your own desires and dreams for our diocese. Holy Conversations are a time for respectful listening, sharing, honesty and optimism and we need everyone's participation.'s%20Pages/bishop-search.html

We are hoping for a great response that will allow us to produce a faithful profile so we are able to call a faithful and dedicated servant of Jesus Christ to be our next bishop. We also ask for your continued prayers as we do this work.

Yours in Christ,

The Rev. Dr. Gary Butterworth, Chair, Bishop Search/Nominating Committee
