The Parish Picnic Is Coming!

St. Francis will have it's Annual Church Picnic on Sunday, September 21st from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Crowe Park in Forest City. This is a potluck picnic so please bring dishes to share. There will be a covered shelter with picnic tables, games for the kids and there is a playground beside the shelter. We will end the evening with Compine or Evening Prayer at 6:30 pm.

Sidewalk Construction

The good news is that work has begun to improve the safety of our crosswalk between the Parish House and the Church. The bad news is that the sidewalk in front of the church and rectory is currently being widened to meet ADA guidelines and construction may not be completed by Sunday. They are also preparing the road for new pavement and it is rough and uneven. Parking in front of the rectory may not be available. You may wish to arrive earlier than usual to allow extra time to get into the church. Anyone with mobility issues should consider parking behind the church on one of the cemetery roads. Wherever you park, please be careful!

Christian Formation

Judi Gustafson will be a guest for an Intergenerational Christian Formation Class on Sunday, September 28. All classes except the Elementary Class and the Pre-K/K Class will meet together in the Parish Hall for Christian Formation.

EPIC Shower for Kathryn Cunningham and Casey McMahan

On Sunday, September 28th following the 10:30 am service, our EPIC Youth will be holding a Wedding Shower for Kathryn and Casey in the Parish House. They are registered at Belk but would also love Lowe’s Gift Cards.

Spiritual Gifts Class

The Spiritual Gifts Class will meet again on Thursday, September 25th. Dinner will be at 5:30 and class will begin at 6:15 pm.

Lych Gate

If you have anything you wish to have published in the October Edition of the Lych Gate, please email it to the church office no later than Tuesday, September 23rd

St. Francis Day

Sunday, October 5th is St. Francis Day. There will be Blessing of the Animals at 2:00 pm in the Parish House Playground area. The EPIC Youth Group will be selling treats for the animals.

Welcome Table September 29, 2014

We want to thank all of you for helping in so many ways with Welcome Table!

We will participate in Welcome Table at First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton on September 29. The menu for September will be meatloaf with a tomato based sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans, a salad, dessert, and beverages.

Twenty-five (25) meatloaves are needed. If you can donate a meatloaf, please bring it to church by Sunday, September 28, and leave it in the refrigerator at the parish house. Identify the meat loaf with the name of the preparer and the date prepared.

Meatloaf Recipe
2 lbs. ground beef
1 package onion soup mix
2 eggs
½ cup tomato sauce
¾ cup bread crumbs or crushed crackers

Combine all ingredients. Place meatloaf in loaf pan. Cook at 350 degrees for one hour or until a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees.

Allow meatloaf to cool. Remove from pan and put into a zip lock freezer bag or wrap in tin foil. Freeze and bring to church by Sunday, September 28, and leave it in the refrigerator at the parish house. Identify the meatloaf with the name of the preparer and the date prepared. If you make a meatloaf before the week for Welcome Table, please put it in the freezer at the parish house.

Help is always needed the day we serve as host at Welcome Table. If you will be able to be there that Monday and serve in one or more ways, please contact Linda Bailey (828-245-7456 or banditandlinda@gmail.com) or Allison Ross (828-202-6722 or acbross@att.net). It would be helpful to know, prior to September 28, if you will donate a meatloaf. Please give Linda Bailey or Allison Ross this information.
