Punch on the Lawn

It’s time to sign up for Punch on the Lawn for the summer months. If you are interested in taking a Sunday, please see Roscoe Conn. The dates for Punch on the Lawn this summer are June 5 and 19, July 3 and 17, August 7 and 21. If we have more than six volunteers we will can extend the event to additional Sundays.

Fostering Together

Did you know …
· As of March 2016, there are 113 foster children in the custody of Rutherford County DSS.
· Currently, there are only 14 homes licensed through DSS in Rutherford Count.
· When there is not placement through Rutherford County DSS, the agency resorts to contacting private agencies to see if they have beds available in their foster homes or group homes. The furthest placement in 2015 was 3 hours away (one-way).
If you want to find out how you can help, there will be an informational meeting at Second Baptist Church in Rutherfordton on May 21st from 6:00 pm—8:00 pm. Childcare will be available.

Community Support Representative

The Department of Social Services of Rutherford County is in need of volunteer Community Support Representatives to help advocate for the needs of children in foster care. These important volunteers will participate in DSS “Child and Family Team” and “Case Review meetings” as a child advocate with the best interest of the child or children as the volunteer’s primary role. Why? The Department of Social Services must ensure that the children we serve have a non agency representative who will support and advocate on their behalf during case planning meetings. The role of the Community Support Representative will also advocate for needed services or programs and service delivery improvements. Meetings are held every six months and usually last one to one to two hours. Interested individuals must meet certain qualifications. Please contact Sarah Miller at 828-287-6273 for more information or to request an application. Thank you for supporting children who need you!

Thank You

The Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Western North Carolina would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the women of St. Francis who were very receptive to the call in donating items for the Women Helping Women Day at Lake Lure. All of the funds raised are made available to women needing funds for educational purposes.
